Sky News: President Rules Out Security Pact With China

In recent meetings, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and President Ramos-Horta discussed and signed agreements on issues including health care, infrastructure, and economic co-operation.

President Ramos-Horta ruled out a security agreement with China, saying “We do not feel threatened by anyone. We have the best possible relationships with the United, States, with Indonesia, with Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, all the countries around us…

“Our immediate interests,” he continued, “our strategic interests, are with the countries in our immediate region. Australia remains our Number One partner in defense and security, in economics, as a donor. We have more daily engagements with Australia than with any other country.”
